Festival Amadeus is the premier destination event for music and nature lovers. Enjoy the grandeur of Northwestern Montana while being treated each evening to world-class music that features internationally acclaimed guest artists.
PUBLIC WELCOME TO ATTEND ANY OF THESE FREE FESTIVAL EVENTS: A community picnic will be held in Depot Park in Whitefish from 4:00 – 6:00 pm on Monday Aug. 2 featuring Brasswerks. Open rehearsals will be held at the following times: Mozart Quartet, Monday, August 2, 1 pm at the O’Shaughnessy Ctr, in Whitefish, with Glacier and Bridger String Quartets. August 3, 1 pm the duo of Krutzen and McGhee will rehearse at Whitefish Four Square Church, 233 Kalispell. Then at 4 pm, the public will be able to observe a master class taught by Joel Fan, at the North Valley Music School, 432 Spokane, Ave. On Wednesday, August 4, 1 pm the “Schumann Piano Quartet” with Joel Fan, will be in rehearsal at O’Shaughnessy Ctr.
On Thursday, August 5, at 3:30 pm McGhee and Krutzen will hold a workshop “Making Music Together” talking about what its like to for them to work as a duo and taking questions for the students, at Whitefish Four Square Church. That evening a special Pre Concert Talk “Arts and the Brain” will be given by Diane Volkman, from 7-7:45 pm at the O’Shaughnessy Ctr. These events are also free.
On Friday, Aug. 6 Camp Festival Amadeus students will perform a free public concert at 12:30 pm in the O’Shaughnessy Ctr., offering a showcase of their week’s work.

Join Maestro Zoltek as he plays host to an entertaining evening of behind the scenes conversation with guests Heidi Krutzen, Lorna McGhee, Joel Fan and Seattle based choreographer Karin Stevens. Get to know these special artists, and hear examples of their work and share refreshments with friends. A great way to start the festival!

Enjoy this night of elegant chamber music featuring the Krutzen/McGhee flute/harp duo from Vancouver, Canada presenting works by Bach, Farr, Piazzolla, Saint-Saens and others. Portland based violist Miriam English Ward joins the duo for French music by Ibert and Debussy.

NYC based pianist extraordinaire Joel Fan displays his virtuosity in a substantial program of emotionally inspired music for solo piano including contemporary pieces by Brazilian and American composers. He later teams with violinist Mary Papoulis, violist Miriam English Ward and cellist Lucas Poe Kiser for the wonderfully passionate Piano Quartet by Robert Schumann, a composer whose 200th anniversary we celebrate.

Mozart composed the unique Concerto for Flute and Harp during his visit to Paris. This beautiful work features the combined artistry of Krutzen and McGhee as duel soloists with the Festival Amadeus Orchestra. The much beloved Symphony No. 40 in G minor and two lively opera overtures complete this all Mozart program.

A harmonious evening where great music is presented through choreographic work. Our FA finale features pianist Joel Fan performing one of Mozart’s most popular piano concertos, No. 21 in C major and a solo selection by Robert Schumann whose 100th anniversary we celebrate this year. The Festival Amadeus Orchestra also offers the sparkling Impresario Overture and Mendelssohn’s famous “Italian” Symphony adding distinctive musical flair and spark to the evening.
